Carol WallaceCarol Wallace has been a creator for over three decades. She began her professional art career by being a gallery artist, represented by art galleries in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York City, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. Through the years she added to her repertoire by becoming a prolific commission artist, illustrator, and designer who licenses selected work to publishing companies and manufacturers of decorative giftware and fashion. She has been called on to teach at various national venues including on Holland American Cruise Line and has done art consultation since she has been involved in nearly every aspect of art. Carol’s strength is her versatility, as she is able to achieve different looks, from dreamy impressionism and representational realism to whimsical illustrative works. She is able to work in different mediums (watercolor, acrylic, and pen & ink) and depict various subject matter. She particularly enjoys the challenge of working with her diverse clientele on custom projects.

Carol draws her inspiration from her extensive travel across the United States and abroad.

In 1997 Carol founded a far-reaching venture called Preserve America®, which is a combination of fine art and preservation of the history, culture, and tradition of Americana. The artist's photographic and writing skills dovetail with this project, which involves the creation of a unique line of two and three-paneled custom note cards and elaborate montage posters—The Preserve America Collection. Many historic landmarks, hotels, inns, and restaurants, museums, and towns are included in the Collection. The prints, reproduced from the commissioned originals, are considered to be “emissaries of history” by preservationists and museum curators. They bring heightened awareness of different regions and historic sites in America, serve as inspiration to others who want to preserve, and are a source of income for historic properties and stationery stores across the nation. Her goal, as a singular artist from the private sector, being urged on many years ago by someone highly connected in a governmental preservation organization in D.C. who was the aware of such a presence being needed, was realized. The artist, who had traveled the roads of every state in America (with her many associates in the background available to create items to help historic properties) was recognized by both former First Ladies Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush, who sent congratulatory letters to her...and an invitation to the White House from Mrs. Bush in addition to another invitation where Carol and her husband were official greeters at an event she held in Portland, Maine for her preservation venture. Notable regional prints include her two-sided 2’ x 3’ Country Stores of Vermont and 22” x 28” Historic Bucks County posters. Both are in the print collection of The Library of Congress and used for research and education purposes at the Smithsonian Institution. In 2004 Carol created the pen and ink drawing of the National World War ll Memorial, which was engraved onto the USPO First Day of Issue Covers for the dedication of the Memorial. The Director of Donor Services for the American Battle Monuments Commission asked Carol to create a watercolor of the Memorial after its Dedication which was made into 30 limited edition prints and given to those in the Commission who made the Memorial a reality. The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Foundation had her original painting of Ellis Island printed as posters and note cards, which were sold online and used for other purposes. The concessionaire for the Statue of Liberty used the image as its official Christmas Card a few years ago and it was also featured on the Foundation's 2017 Membership Cards. The Foundation has the original in its collection. Senator Bob Dole recently included her #1 Artist's Proof Limited Edition Print on one of the walls of his Robert J. Dole Museum of Politics in Lawrence, Kansas. The associated Gatekeepers of History features stories Carol writes, or helps write, about certain people and places across America that the artist feels should be highlighted and brought to the public. She does this as a public service.

Carol recently wrote and illustrated her first book, a satirical humor novella entitled “Daisy’s Reality Show Adventure”, which was released as the updated version on Amazon in 2017. Daisy, the central character, is known as “America’ Ultimate Comfort Dog,” who offers, through her life story, support and comfort in these tumultuous times. There are fun similarities between characters in the book and current events involving real-life celebrities and politicians...and twenty colorful illustrations too. It is interesting to note that the inspiration for writing this book came when Carol had to face open heart surgery for a new heart valve and needed some levity in her life...thus, she researched dogs and cats and placed them in her book matching them up with characters she saw on Reality TV shows and also included some “politikin’” issues as well. It is “social commentary with bite!”

Carol’s creativity has allowed her to embark upon other endeavors. She had coordinated several large grassroots corporate/governmental public service efforts where everyone works together for the good of the cause. Her best known work was for the 1982 State of Connecticut’s Better Yet Connecticut TV ad campaign for heritage tourism. Carol was appointed by then-Governor William O’Neill to be the Executive Director of the entire ad campaign, starring Paul Newman, Art Carney, Skitch Henderson, Susan Saint James, Mario van Peebles, June Havoc, artist Eric Sloane, advisors Film Director Milos Forman, Film Critic Rex Reed and others, to make this ad campaign the first of its kind ever done in America. She received the 1982 Connecticut Tourism Award for her efforts by Governor O’Neill. This was the inspiration for what Carol is doing now through Preserve America.

The artist is an elected signature member of the Society of Illustrators, Salmagundi Art Club, National League of American Pen Women, and listed in Who’s Who in American Art. Carol is featured in several art reference books: Best of New York Artists and Best of Watercolor Artists in America (Kennedy Publications) and The Artistic Touch 2 and 3 (Creative Art Press). She is a member of the United States Coast Guard Art Program.
